Fire engulfs 20-room building in Ilorin, Firefighters save 13 rooms
A fire outbreak on Wednesday afternoon engulfed parts of a 20-room building in Ilorin, Kwara State, but the swift response of firefighters helped prevent further destruction.
The incident happened around 1:53 pm at No. 90 Koro Compound, Oke-Apomu quarters, Ilorin. According to the Kwara State Fire Service, the fire started due to an unattended gas cooker left burning in one of the rooms.
Firefighters arrived quickly at the scene and found the fire spreading rapidly through the building.
Despite the intensity of the flames, they managed to contain the fire and successfully saved 13 out of the 20 rooms. However, seven rooms were affected by the inferno.
“The firefighters worked tirelessly to put out the fire and stop it from spreading further. Their quick response and expertise prevented what could have been a more serious disaster,” said Hassan Ade Kunle, the spokesperson for the State Fire Service.
Following the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, urged the public to be more cautious when using gas appliances and to always prioritise fire safety.
“This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of leaving gas cookers unattended. We advise residents to take fire safety seriously to prevent such occurrences,” he added.
