Fire at Port Harcourt refinery contained, operations unaffected – NNPCL
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has assured the public that the Port Harcourt refinery remains fully operational despite a fire outbreak on Wednesday.
In a statement released the same day, NNPCL’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, confirmed the incident but emphasised that it was a minor one that did not affect operations.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited wishes to clarify that despite a minor incident at a section of the Port Harcourt Refining Company earlier today, the plant remains operational and continues to produce on-spec refined petroleum products,” the statement read.
NNPCL also reassured Nigerians that there was no cause for concern, as all sections of the recently rehabilitated refinery were still functioning.
Earlier reports had indicated that a fire broke out in part of the refinery, but it was quickly extinguished, preventing any damage to the facility.
