FG, ASUU in closed door meeting
The federal government and the leadership of the Academi Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have held a closed meeting to deliberate on ways to avert the proposed strike by the union.
The Informant247 gathered that the meeting is expected to provide an opportunity for both parties to deliberate on issues also affecting the university system.
ASUU had earlier written to the ministry, detailing a number of issues and concerns affecting the universities and the union.
The Informant247 reported that the Unilorin chapter of the union had on Tuesday called on the federal government to fulfil all the promises made during 2022 industrial action.
Some of the demands of the union include, the implementation of the FGN-ASUU renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, payment of outstanding/mainstreaming of earned academic allowance and withheld salaries, rejection of Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), reconstitution” of the governing councils, and an urgent intervention to rescue the economy of the country.
