FCT police send man who climbed radio mast in suicide attempt for mental evaluation

The Federal Capital Territory police command on Tuesday sent Shuaibu Yushau to the Social Development Secretariat (SDS) for mental assessment and evaluation following his somewhat troubling action, which caused apprehension in the populace on Monday.

The Informant247 had earlier reported how a middle-aged man, on Monday, climbed a broadcast mast at Katampe Hills in Abuja, threatening to kill himself if the federal government failed to address the current hardship in the country.

According to reports, Shuaibu Alhaji Yusuf from Maiduguri, Borno State, dropped a handwritten note demanding an end to insecurity issues in parts of the northeast and the northwest.

Meanwhile, a statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh said the suspect, if found to be mentally stable after the test, would be charged in court for attempted suicide, disturbance of public peace, and incitement contrary to sections 231, 111, and 114 of the Penal Code Act.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, however, urged residents to be law-abiding while pushing for their voices to be heard, as the police will not be stampeded into allowing the breakdown of law and order.
