Father of alleged sexually molested 7-yr-old granted bail
The Kwara State Upper Area Court 1, was on Wednesday, jam-packed with members of the Federation of Women Lawyer (FIDA), lawmaker, and state civic servants, who stormed the court to defend the arraignment of one Vincent Fadunmade, father of the alleged sexually molested seven (7) years old girl.
Fadunmade, according to Direct Complaint, was dragged to court by the proprietor of ‘His Grace Group of Schools’, Apostle Joshua Adekanye, who accused him of threatening to kill him and his wife.
The complaint revealed that Fadunmade threatened to bring down the school if the management failed to address the issue of levies, which was described excessive.
The defendant among other several allegations in the complaint, was accused of being violent and for attempting to assault staff of the private school.
Barrister Olasehinde Adeseko, who represented Adekanye during the proceedings, prayed the court to remand the defendant in Correctional Service Centre until his counsel come formally for his bail application.
Adeseko, in his submission, cited several laws to drive home the argument that the offences against Fadunmade attracts years of punishment and it’s not ordinarily bailable.
Reacting, the defendant lead counsel, Sofiat Usman, a member of the Federation of Women Lawyer, (FIDA) urged the court to discountenance the submission of his colleague saying remanding Fadunmade will amount to pre-trial punishment.
She added that the offences against his client are mere allegations which have not substantiated by the court, stressing that the defendant is still not guilty of them.
According to her, the defendant should be allowed to enjoy his fundamental human rights by admitting him to bail.
Usman, urged the court to grant the defendant bail on liberal terms saying he will provide reliable sureties and will adhered to the rule of the Court.
The court, which was precided over by Justice Sunday Adeniyi, overruled the submission of the claimant counsel, saying the bail application is at the discretion of the Court and it may be either oral or written.
The court, however, addimitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum while the matter was adjourned to 22nd of April.
Recall that, Fadunmde’s daughter, who was in primary II at His Grace Group of School was allegedly sexual molested by his teacher, one Akorede Ahmed.
In order to carry out the wicked act, Akorede locked up the innocent girl in the school toilet where he removed her pant and started touching her private sensitive organs.
When the innocent girl feel uncomfortable with her teachers’ strange ‘play’, she resisted it, the action that made Ahmed opened the door for her to go.
The matter was taken to court and heard at the magistrate court Ganmo, where he was eventually remanded.
This medium learnt that the case has been transferred to the family court and will be coming up next week.
