Emir of Ilorin pledges support for EFCC’s anti-corruption crusade
The Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Traditional Chiefs, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has pledged his unwavering support for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its relentless fight against corruption.
Emir’s commitment came during a courtesy visit by the Ilorin Zonal Director of the EFCC, Mr. Daniel Isei, and his management team on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Emir’s Palace in Ilorin.
He praised the EFCC’s dedication to combating financial and economic crimes, stressing the importance of community involvement in the anti-corruption campaign. He characterized the people of Kwara as “very polite and lovely,” highlighting the need for collective efforts in tackling corruption.
Having served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, the Emir extended heartfelt prayers for the success of EFCC Executive Chairman Mr. Ola Olukoyede in his significant responsibilities. He reminisced about attending the inauguration of the EFCC’s modern office in Ilorin and expressed his readiness to continue supporting the Commission’s mission. He assured Isei and his team of the Palace’s assistance, stating, “You have our support, our prayers, and our doors are always open.”
Isei, in turn, acknowledged the vital role traditional rulers play in instilling public trust and accountability. He expressed his intent to collaborate with the Emirate to achieve meaningful progress in the fight against corruption. Seeking the Emir’s wisdom, he emphasized that the visit aimed to secure royal blessings and enhance cooperation with the traditional authority in Kwara State.
Additionally, Isei requested the Emir’s support in addressing the urgent issues of cybercrime and illegal mining affecting the state. He concluded his visit by congratulating the Emir on his recent 85th birthday, wishing him good health and impactful leadership.
The Zonal Director was accompanied by key members of his management team, including Cosmas Ugwu, Head of Legal and Prosecution; Kayode Adebayo, Head of Administration and Human Resources; and Ayodele Babatunde, Head of the Public Affairs Department.
