Edo Gov suspends traditional ruler amid surge in violence and kidnappings

In a decisive move, Gov. Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has suspended the Okumagbe of Uwano Kingdom, Dr. George Egabor, following a series of alarming incidents involving kidnapping and killings in the region. The announcement was made in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor in Benin City.

The indefinite suspension reflects the state government’s concern over the deteriorating security situation within the kingdom. Additionally, the government’s response includes the arrest of the traditional ruler’s secretary, Peter Omiogbemhi, in connection with a recent tragic event that resulted in the death of a palace chief, John Ikhamate. Authorities are urging a thorough investigation to address these pressing issues.
