DSS operatives raid SERAP office After NLC president’s arrest at Abuja airport

The Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) was raided by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday, following the arrest of Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

Ajaero was reportedly detained while preparing to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official engagement. Shortly after his arrest, SERAP reported that DSS agents had entered their office in the nation’s capital, seeking to meet with the organization’s directors.

In a statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) account, SERAP condemned the DSS action, labeling it an illegal occupation of their premises and calling on President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

“Breaking: Officers from Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) are presently unlawfully occupying SERAP’s Office in Abuja, asking to see our directors.

President Tinubu must immediately direct the SSS to end the harassment, intimidation and attacked on the rights of Nigeria” the group stated.

Details surrounding the motives for the DSS raid remain unclear at this time
