Double celebration as Kwara United U19 boys win inaugural Nigeria Youth League
Barely 24-hours to when the Kwara United senior team won the President Federation Cup in Lagos on Saturday, the Kwara United U-19 team have also emerged champions of the inaugural edition of the Nigeria Youth League after a thrilling 3–2 victory over Atlantic Business Football FA at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos, on Sunday.
The junior Harmony Boys got off to a flying start as Yusuf Kareem opened the scoring in the 7th minute, setting the tone for what would become a historic day for the team.
Yusuf Olatunji doubled the lead in the 43rd minute, giving Kwara United a comfortable 2–0 advantage heading into halftime.
Shortly after the restart, Saheed Aderibigbe added a third goal in the 47th minute, further strengthening Kwara United’s grip on the match.
Despite a strong comeback effort from Atlantic Business, who pulled two goals back following impactful substitutions, the determined and resilient Kwara side held firm to secure the trophy.
The Harmony Boys’ impressive campaign was further recognized with individual accolades:
Coach Abdulkadir Jimoh was named Best Coach of the Tournament,
Goalkeeper Sheriff clinched the Best Goalkeeper award,
Mohammed Abdullahi was voted Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Speaking after the game, Coach Abdulkadir Jimoh praised his players for their determination and resilience, stating that winning the inaugural edition of the tournament is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support of the club’s management.
Among the dignitaries present at the final was Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who personally presented medals to both the winners and runners-up, further highlighting the importance of youth development in sports.
