Developing story: Police launch investigation into supreme court blaze

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command is currently conducting an investigation into a fire incident that occurred at the Supreme Court in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police officers and firefighters swiftly intervened to bring the situation under control.

Unfortunately, two chambers belonging to judges were affected by the fire, and the extent of property damage is yet to be determined at this time.

According to SP Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT police, the incident took place on September 25, 2023, around 7 am.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, the authorities are actively working to determine its origin.

Further information regarding the incident will be communicated once the investigation is complete.

The Informant247 has reported that a portion of the Supreme Court in the Federal Capital Territory was engulfed in flames during the early morning hours of Monday.

This incident has prompted firefighters to respond to the scene. Regrettably, some justices’ offices were reportedly damaged, causing occupants to evacuate in haste.

This fire incident at the Supreme Court is the latest in a series of such events that have affected government offices in Abuja.

In May 2023, a fire occurred at the Nigerian Air Force Base along Airport Road in the FCT. Previously, in February 2022, a fire incident was reported at the Ministry of Finance building in Abuja.

In May 2020, a fire damaged a portion of the Nigerian Postal Service building in the FCT.

Additionally, a month prior to that, the office of the accountant-general of the Federation was also affected by a fire incident.

Notably, in 2018, the Federal Fire Service disclosed that Nigeria had incurred substantial losses amounting to approximately N5 trillion due to fire incidents over a span of four years.
