Dangote refinery slashes petrol to ₦841/litre, begins free fuel distribution Monday
The Dangote refinery is set to launch its highly anticipated free fuel distribution scheme this Monday, as reported by The PUNCH.
Anthony Chiejina, spokesman for the Dangote Group, confirmed in an official statement that the scheme will first roll out in the South West, the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), and the states of Kwara, Delta, Rivers, and Edo.
Chiejina also announced a reduction in petrol prices, effective from the start of the distribution.
He stated, “We are starting the free fuel distribution scheme on Monday. We will start with Lagos and the South West, Abuja, Kwara, Delta, Rivers and Edo States. There will be a drop in price effective on Monday when the free distribution starts.”
The new retail prices will be set at N841 per litre in Lagos and the South West and N851 per litre in the other targeted states.
Although the program was originally slated to begin in August, it faced postponement due to logistical challenges in China.
However, the refinery has now received over 1,000 trucks to facilitate the commencement of the program, with plans to expand to more states as additional trucks arrive in Nigeria.
Additionally, Dangote announced its investment in a large-scale rollout of CNG-powered trucks to bolster logistics and reduce costs in the distribution chain.
“Even though we recently noticed how the CNG prices doubled a week ago, that will not deter our 10,000 CNG truck roll-out this year,” the company emphasized in its statement.
