Coutinho ruled out of World Cup

Aston Villa Brazilian midfield star Philippe Coutinho has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks and will miss the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Coutinho , who suffered a quadricep injury, is expected to be sidelined for not less than seven weeks.

The 30-year-old was not in the squad for Aston Villa’s 3-1 victory over Manchester United and new boss Unai Emery said he would not be available for Thursday’s Carabao Cup tie at Old Trafford, or the Premier League fixture at Brighton next weekend.

Coutinho joined Villa on loan from Barcelona last January and was eventually handed a permanent signature for £17million during Steven Gerrard’s period.

The injury also further cast a big shadow on the future of the Spaniard under the new era of Emery.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian National team are yet to release its squad name for the upcoming mundial even as Coutinho’s performance lately may not likely see him make the depth of the line up for the Samba Boys.
