Court remands five for armed robbery, cultism in Ilorin

Five suspected secret cult members have been remanded at the Oke-Kura custodian centre over alleged robbery of a Bet-Naija office, in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

They were arraigned before Magistrate Bio Salihu on the offences of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and being member of a secret cult, contrary to sections 6(b) of robbery and firearms (special provisions) act, cap R11 LFN, 2004 and secret cult & secret societies (prohibition) law, 2016.

The police First Information Report revealed that the defendants also made away with the cash sum of N645,000, two laptops among others items.

The complainant, one Iyanda Ismaila, according to the police report, was able to recognize Ismail Abdulrauf among those that allegedly robbed his office at gun point.

Abdulrauf, after he was arrested and confessed to the crime, mentioned Ismail Adisa, one Ojo and others as members of his cohorts.

During the investigation, the defendants confessed to be member Aiye secret cult confratenity.

The prosecutor, in his submission, urged the court to order the remand of the defendants saying the alleged offences they committed are not ordinarily bailable.

The court, who ceded to the prosecutor submission, ordered that they should be remanded in Oke-Kura correctional service centre while the case was adjourned to 14th June, 2020 for further mention.
