Court detains motorcycle rider for alleged cop’s murder
Sanusi Aliu, a motorbike rider who reportedly stabbed a police officer to death with scissors, and another were arraigned in an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
The defendant, 30, was charged with murder and bodily assault on two counts.
His request, however, was ignored.
Mrs. F.M. Kayode, the Chief Magistrate, ordered the defendant’s remand in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions’ office (DPP).
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Oladele Adebayo, informed the court that the defendant committed the crimes on Jan. 3, at 11.30 p.m., at the Megida Bus stop in Ayobo.
He informed the court that the defendant stabbed a police officer, Mr Wasiu Abogunloko, to death with scissors and also stabbed a juvenile who was being treated.
When the dead officer confiscated the defendant’s bike, Aliu became enraged and pulled out a pair of scissors, which he used to stab him to death.
“While fleeing, other bystanders tried to catch him, one of them was the teenage, who was also stabbed by Aliu in his attempt to flee,” he claimed.
According to Adebayo, the offences violated Sections 173 and 223 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
The case was postponed until March 15 to allow for legal counsel.
