Corps member donates wheelchairs to disabled students in Kwara
After many years of suffering, succour has finally come the way of four disabled students with the donation of wheelchairs by a member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, Jimoh Azeezat Muhammed with a batch number KW/20B/0619.
During the presentation, Azeezat, who also organized a debate competition for seven selected secondary schools in the Ilorin metropolis, said the donation exercise was part of her philanthropic gestures to give back to the society.
She called on other Nigerian youth to always look for opportunities to assist underprivileged individuals.
She said, “The idea is to ease mobility, and to promote friendliness in the academic environment among the upcoming future leaders.
“We can only do our best to ensure that these minority set of people that others will normally look down on are taken care of academically.”
Schools involved in the debate competition on “Effect of peer pressure on the value of education” include; GDSS Odo-Okun, UniIlorin Secondary School, Bishop Smith School, Sheik AbdulQadir College, Queen Elizabeth School, Government Secondary School, and Ansarul Deen Secondary School.
GDSS Odo-Okun and UniIlorin Secondary with 90points and 83points respectively emerged on the first, second log.
While Bishop Smith School with 77points, the duo Sheikh AbdulQadir College and Queen Elizabeth School recorded 70points each.
Government Secondary School and Ansarul Deen Secondary School got 69points and 57points respectively to be the last on the roll.
Appreciating the corps member, the major sponsor of the CDS, Hajia Rafat Bola Shittu commended the convener, Jimoh Azeezat, saying the gesture would go a long way in ameliorating the suffering of the physically challenged pupils as well, in promoting the education sector.
