Coronavirus: Al-Hikmah varsity set to hold virtual exams
Al-Hikmah University has announced that it would conduct online examination for the ongoing semester.
This was noted in a guideline signed by the Online Examination Committee and Director of Academic Planning of the institution.
According to the guidelines, students would be invigilated through the Zoom app and their papers submitted via WhatsApp for assessment.
The varsity, in Ilorin, had earlier — in a bid to keep the academic activities flowing despite the shutdown of all tertiary institution in Nigeria due to the coronavirus pandemic — continued with academic activities via electronic means.
The institution makes use of Zoom, Google classroom, Telegram and WhatsApp Applications to engage students in lectures, tests and assignments amongst other activities.
Students who spoke with our correspondent however expressed mixed feelings over the virtual academic exercise, citing data and network difficulties, but however commended the process.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Taofeeq Ibrahim explained that the Electronic-Learning System is in line with what other universities around the world have resorted to during the pandemic.
He noted that the method is an alternative developed by the institution to keep on academic activities despite the pandemic.
He explained that students who are unable to participate in the exam will carry-over the course like in conventional exams.
He added that the university plans to ensure examination integrity in the conduct of the exam, noting that the management has deployed necessary surveillance tools to invigilate the conduct of the exam.
