BVAS: INEC postpones gov’ship elections till March 18
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the much anticipated governorship and state house of assembly elections earlier planned for Saturday, March 11 2023 till Saturday March 18, 2023.
It was gathered from reliable sources in the electoral commission that the elections have been rescheduled by one week to Saturday, March 18, 2023.
The inability of the commission to kick-start the re-configuration of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines necessitated the postponement of the elections.
The electoral commission identified the need to reconfigure the BVAS machines which were used for the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections.
Sources revealed that the Commission is currently having a meeting where March 18 and March 15 were pushed forward for consideration.
It was learnt that the meeting agreed to conduct the elections on March 18.
“You know that the BVAS re-configuration would take three or four days and since they would all be moved to the headquarters in Abuja, the machines would be re-configured and deployed to the various states and finally to the polling units,” one of the officials said.
