BREAKING: Kwara govt stops construction of Sulu-Gambari Pavilion facilitated by Saliu Mustapha
Officials of the Kwara State Town Planning and Development Authority, accompanied by security personnel, have ordered the stoppage of the ongoing construction of the Sulu-Gambari Pavilion, a multi-million-naira project facilitated by the Senator representing Kwara Central, Saliu Mustapha.
Sources at the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, who witnessed the incident, told The Informant247 that the government operatives arrived unannounced at the project site and directed contractors to immediately cease work on Saturday.
The Nigerian government’s project, facilitated by Senator Saliu Mustapha and being handled by FESE MULTI-DIMENSION NIGERIA LIMITED, was initiated to provide a permanent pavilion for the Ilorin Emirate Annual Durbar festival and other community events and activities.
With the approval of the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the pavilion project was expected to proceed without interference, particularly given its importance to the Ilorin Emirate traditional institution.
The development, according to sources, is linked to the lingering political tensions between Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Senator Mustapha, whose relationship soured after the 2023 general elections. The fallout has since escalated into open political confrontations between their supporters.
Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the contract is being handled by Global Legend Conglomerate Ltd, instead of FESE MULTI-DIMENSION NIGERIA LIMITED.
