Breaking: Gunmen attack Gbugbu community in Kwara on Ramadan eve

Gbugbu community in Edu local government area of Kwara State has been thrown into chaos on Sunday night following reports of a attack by gunmen.

According to residents who spoke with a local news platform, NupekoTv-Lafiagi, heavily armed bandits stormed the community , firing shots indiscriminately and sending villagers scrambling for safety.

The sound of gunfire reportedly echoed across the town, creating widespread panic in a community known for its vibrant economic activities, especially its popular Gbugbu market.

While the report of attack has been confirmed, the number of casualties or possible abductions remains unconfirmed.

Authorities have also yet to release an official statement regarding the incident. The report of attack is coming few days after the launching of Military operation codenamed ‘Operation Savannah Shield’ by the federal govenrment.

The operation, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu following recent deadly attacks in Woro, Kaiama local government area of Kwara State and parts of Niger State, is a coordinated effort involving the Army, Navy, and Air Force to restore peace across Kwara and adjoining communities.

The joint task force was expected to cover the entire Kwara State and parts of Niger State, with a primary mandate to secure lives and property, neutralise terrorist and criminal elements, disrupt kidnapping networks, and restore law and order.
