BREAKING: Court sentences PDP chieftain Esinrogunjo to 9 months imprisonment

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, has been convicted and sentenced to nine months imprisonment by the Kwara State High Court for obstructing a police officer and disturbing public peace.

The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice E.B. Muhammed after a protracted trial that lasted three years and three months.

The court found Esinrogunjo guilty on charges bordering on interference with lawful police duties and conduct capable of causing a breach of peace.

In his ruling, Justice Muhammed sentenced the defendant to three months imprisonment without the option of a fine for obstructing a public officer — identified during trial as Sergeant James — while he was carrying out his lawful duties.

The court also handed Esinrogunjo an additional six-month jail term for disturbing public peace. However, the judge granted him the option of paying a fine of N2,000 in lieu of the six-month sentence.

During the trial, the prosecution called four witnesses, including the police officer at the centre of the incident, to establish its case.

The court held that the evidence presented sufficiently proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt.

Recall that the convict is also appearing before the hight court for allegedly raping a minor.
