Borno: Troops neutralise top Boko Haram commander, cameraman
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully neutralized a high-ranking Boko Haram commander, Ibn Khalid, along with numerous other terrorists, including their cameraman, in Borno State.
This achievement comes on the heels of targeted operations carried out by the army across various remote communities in the region, resulting in the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and logistical supplies linked to the terrorist group.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at Headquarters Theatre Command, reported that troops stationed in Monguno successfully repelled an attempted infiltration by insurgents. During pursuit operations, soldiers discovered blood trails along the retreat routes of the fleeing attackers.
“Items recovered included a large quantity of 7.62mm special ammunition, one PKT belt, an AK-47 rifle magazine, a Rocket Propelled Grenade bomb, and other military gear,” the statement detailed.
Regarding the neutralized commander, Captain Kovangiya noted, “In a separate encounter at Bitta, in Gwoza Local Government Area, troops again repelled an infiltration attempt. The insurgents faced superior firepower, resulting in the deaths of several fighters, including Ibn Khalid, a senior Quiad commander, and the group’s cameraman. Troops also recovered additional weapons, AK-47 magazines, and a camcorder from the scene.”
The statement further indicated that within a series of subsidiary operations during the same timeframe, at least 17 terrorists were neutralized in offensives spanning from Sambisa Forest to the Madagali and Kaga local government areas. Multiple motorcycles and logistical supplies were also seized.
