Borno: NAF airstrikes neutralise ISWAP commanders, fighters in major operations

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has achieved a significant victory against the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) by eliminating several high-value commanders and fighters during a precision airstrike in Borno State, part of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK).

In a statement, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, NAF Spokesman, revealed that the airstrike occurred on July 27, 2025, targeting the notorious ISWAP enclave of Arina Woje in the Southern Tumbuns region, known as a hideout for insurgent leaders.

Ejodame remarked, “The airstrike was executed following credible Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) sorties that confirmed the return of terrorist elements to the region after recent inter-factional clashes.” He emphasized that the collected ISR data indicated significant movements within ISWAP, including foot soldiers and possible command centers concealed beneath dense foliage.

“The aircrew successfully acquired and engaged pre-selected targets using precision-guided munitions, resulting in devastating effects,” he added.

Preliminary assessments post-strike revealed that multiple structures housing key ISWAP leaders and their logistics facilities had been destroyed, disrupting the group’s operational planning and resupply efforts.

“This operation underscores our unwavering commitment to dismantling terrorist activities and restoring peace across Nigeria,” Ejodame stated, further reinforcing the critical role of intelligence-driven air operations in contemporary counter-terrorism efforts.
