Border closure: Custom Boss visits Kwara, Niger traditional heads, seeks cooperation amid smuggling
In a bid to upheld the border closure policy as directed by president Muhammadu Buhari won in order to to stem the tides of smuggling, the Kwara State coordinator, Joint Border Drill Operations, Compt. Mohammed Uba Garba recently visited the Emirate Councils and Border Communities– Ilesha-Baruba, Yashkira, Chikanda and Okuta axis of Baruten Local Government area of Kwara State.
The custom boss however extended his visit to Kaiama-Jebba-Mokwa-Wawa-Babanna-Kotangora axis of Kwara and Niger states where he had a meeting with traditional rulers and other notable stakeholders of the communities.
Speaking at the Palace of the District Head, Babanna, the Coordinator lamented the tenacity of smugglers who are still operating in that axis despite the border closure. He noted that the unrelenting smugglers have invented new means of using bush-paths, Motorbikes and Camels to execute their extra judicial activities. He stressed that there is no going back on the fight against smuggling in any ramification.
Taking his turn, the Dodo of Wawa Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Aliyu revealed that the motive of Federal Government to close its border is for the well being of Nation’s economy and that he will support the Federal Government in achieving this goal. He went further to say that the Emirate council has a long standing cordial relationship with all the security agencies in his domain and promised to do all it takes to assist the Sector in achieving the task at hand.
The Emir of Kotangro, Alh. Saidu Namaska also appreciated the coordinator for choosing traditional institutions as his focal point, who are the grass root mobilizers, for his sensitization program. He prayed for peace and progress of the Country.
