Be proactive in your service or face sanction, Kwara govt tells consultants

Kwara State Government, through the Ministry of Environment, has urged consultants of Commercial Waste management to be proactive and committed to work while discharging their duties.

Hajia Nafisat Musa Buge, the state commissioner for the Environment, gave the charge over the weekend during an emergency meeting with members of the Association of Waste Management Consultants held at the Ministry’s Conference hall.

The commissioner, while expressing her displeasure with the ways and manners the consultants discharge their duties, especially within the Ilorin metropolis, where indiscriminate dumping of refuse is so rampant and can cause epidemics, warned that any of the Commercial Waste Consultants who refuse to perform up to government expectation would be sanctioned.

She said, “Government is not satisfied with the ways and manner you are rendering your duties to the people, most especially within the Ilorin metropolis, where we are experiencing incessant and indiscriminate dumping of refuse, which can cause epidemics, if care is not taking”.

Hajia Buge also reiterated the commitment of the present administration, under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to prioritise the hygiene of the people to ensure a clean and safe environment for residents.

Earlier, the Chairman, Association of Waste Consultants, Alhaji Zakariyyu Tahir, appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his laudable and direct impact projects this administration is embarking on, as well as enforcing the law against encroachment of roads to allow for unrestricted movement of the people and vehicles plying the roads.

He, however, reassured the state government of the Association’s unflinching support towards achieving a cleaner Kwara.
