Bandits reportedly kidnap 60 worshippers from Kaduna church

Suspected bandits on Sunday stormed Emmanuel Baptist Church located in Kakau Daji in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, kidnapping no fewer than 60 worshippers in the process.

It was gathered that the gunmen, shooting sporadically into the air, invaded the church during Sunday morning service.

Confirming the attacks, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kaduna chapter ‎Chairman, Reverend John Hayab, said the incident happened on Sunday but details did not come out on time because there was no telecommunications network in the area.

There were reports that about 100‎ people were abducted but the Christian leader said he could only confirm 60, based on the report from the villagers.

He said, “As at yesterday (Monday), I confirmed about 60 worshippers were missing‎ and it was actually one person that died. They had a song service that day; when the gunmen came, they went to the children church first but changed their minds and surrounded the church.”

He added that when people saw them, they started running and the bandits opened fire and killed one person instantly.

Kaduna State Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attack and the killing of one worshipper, identified as  Yusuf Dauda, but was silent on the number of the people abducted.
