Bandits invade Kaduna villages, kill 50, abduct 100, raze houses
No fewer than 50 residents were killed, and another 100 abducted after suspected bandits launched a fresh attack on nine villages in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
gathered that the bandits who struck in the early hours of Friday, also burnt down about 30 vehicles, and buildings, including a church.
The villages, according to reports, include Unguwar Kaya Fatika, Barebare, Dillalai, Zango Tama, Unguwar Bakko, Gidan Alhajin Kadi, Kadanya and Duromi.
Speaking on the attack, the police spokesperson in the state, ASP Mohammed Jalinge, said the State Command was yet to compile the actual number of deaths recorded during the invasion.
He said, “We are still waiting for the full details of the incident from the Divisional Police Officer, Giwa and the Area Commander Zaria.”
However, a member of the vigilante group in Dillalai area of the local council, Mansur Ibrahim, said the bandits burnt houses and vehicles, motorcycles and rustled away over 100 cows.
He hinted that Dillalai was worst hit by the attack where about 15 people were reportedly killed with five commercial trucks and five houses burnt.
Ibrahim furthered that some of the victims that sustained gunshot injuries were receiving treatment at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika-Zaria.
It could be recalled that repeated attacks on two local councils in the state last Sunday, which resulted in the killing of 37 people and burning of several houses, prompted authorities to immediately impose a 24-hour curfew to prevent further mayhem.
