‘Attack on Muslims’, Ogun league of Imams, Alfas raises concerns amid alleged traditionalist threats
The League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State issued a stern warning against any violations of Muslims’ rights to practice their religious duties, particularly in cases involving suspected traditionalists.
These concerns were expressed during a gathering of prominent Imams and Alfas held at the Egba Central Mosque in Kobiti, Abeokuta.
Prominent figures at the gathering included Shaykh Sikirullahi Babalola, President General of the League of Imams and Alfas in Ogun State; Shaykh AbdulRazaq Ayanbadejo, the Grand Chief Imam of Ijebuland; Shaykh Sa’adallah Bamigbola, the Grand Chief Imam of Egbaland, and Shaykh AbdulQuadri Jinadu, the Grand Chief Imam of Remoland.
In an official statement issued by the Secretary-General of Rabittah Ogun State, Imam Tajudeen Adewumni, the group expressed concern over what they perceived as persistent attacks and threats originating from traditionalist quarters.
They called upon the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, to intervene in addressing these issues.
The statement touched upon various matters, including economic challenges faced by Nigerians and the government’s efforts to address them.
The group acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s role in steering the nation through economic and political challenges, including the removal of fuel subsidies.
However, they urged the President to explore practical and feasible solutions to alleviate the suffering of the impoverished masses who struggle to meet their basic needs, especially regarding providing food for their families.
Furthermore, the League of Imams and Alfas called for a comprehensive investigation into subsidy-related matters and the prosecution of any individuals involved in corruption.
They suggested that profits derived from the removal of subsidies should be directed toward revitalizing the country’s deteriorating infrastructure and amenities, as well as generating employment opportunities for the country’s youth.
In addition to these national concerns, the group made appeals to the Ogun State government, under Governor Dapo Abiodun, emphasizing the importance of fairness in forming the government’s cabinet for his second term.
They emphasized the need for impartiality in selecting state commissioners and appointing members to various state boards and agencies.
