Asari Dokubo declares support for Tinubu, says president stood by him during difficult time

The Niger Delta activist, Asari Dokubo, has said he would do everything within his power to ensure the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Dokubo, while speaking on Tuesday when Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), visited him at his palace in Degema, Rivers state, said Tinubu stood by him during a difficult period of his life and deserved his full support in return.

According to him, “Like you said, my friend, everything that is going to happen, I will be with you in making sure that my friend, the president, succeeds”.

“Everything that I am capable of doing, I will do to make sure that he succeeds.”

Dokubo said his relationship with Tinubu dates back to 1992, long before he became a traditional ruler.

“I was not a traditional ruler when we met in 1992. I never thought I would ever become what I am today,” he said.

“He stood by me in my most difficult period, and it is now my turn to also stand by him and also support him.”

Earlier, Wike said his visit was to thank the people of the community for their support and to explain why they should back Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, adding that he also used the visit to wish the people a happy new year and to appreciate the warm reception accorded him.

“I know that traditional rulers don’t play politics,” Wike said.

“You are my friend, and I felt that there’s no way I would come here, where you reside, and your kingdom without coming to greet you and to say happy new year.”
