Army detains soldier for beating 2 nurses during wife’s delivery in Kwara
The 22 Armoured Brigade of Nigeria Army, Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, Kwara State, said it has detained a soldier who allegedly assaulted two female nurses during delivery of his wife at Sobi Specialist Hospital, Ilorin.
The Public Relations Officer of the cantonment, St. Sgt Waziri said to the Punch Newspaper that the soldier is currently undergoing interrogation as the authority has put him in the guard room at Sobi Army Barracks, Ilorin.
Confirming the incident to the newsmen in Ilorin, The Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses Association of Nigeria, Kwara chapter, Alhaji Shehu Aminu revealed that the soldier took his pregnant wife for delivery at the Kwara State government-owned Okelele Primary Health Centre, Ilorin, where his wife has been attending antenatal care.
Aminu said upon admission of the wife into the labour room, the soldier was asked to go and procure delivery packs – including the hand gloves and the other materials to be used for delivery.
He said that the soldier told the nurse that the state government has provided all the materials at the hospital insisting that he would not get the materials.
He added that the soldier was not satisfied with the explanation of the nurse thereby became infuriated, headed to the doctor’s office and started beating the two nurses he met.
Aminu said that one of the nurses ran for her dear life after receiving a slap while the other was injured in her ankle.
He confirmed that the nurses have been treated at the hospital while the matter had been reported to the Army authority in the state.
According to Aminu, the state government had also reported the incident to the headquarters of the Nigerian Army in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
He confirmed that the soldier has been arrested for interrogation in Ilorin Sobi barrack.
