Army Chief orders troops to eliminate banditry in Kwara within one month

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Olufemi Oluyede, has issued a stern directive for soldiers to eradicate banditry in Kwara State within one month.

During a visit to Sobi Barracks in Ilorin, he emphasized the urgency of the mission, instructing troops to focus their efforts on flushing out bandits from two local government areas.

General Oluyede expressed concern over the potential spread of banditry, insisting that Nigeria must not allow such criminal activities to take root in other parts of the country. He stated that any form of a Boko Haram-like situation must be prevented, addressing the troops with a determined message: “You’re out here, and I know you can do it to make sure those people (bandits) leave that place for us.”

He further added, “If they want to enter another country, that is their business, but you must push them out of those forests so we will not have another set of Boko Haram disturbing us here.” The army chief set a clear expectation for results, insisting, “In the next one month, I don’t want to see any footprints of those criminals within that Kainji Dam.”

Oluyede concluded with an assurance of change, stating, “What is happening in Kwara cannot be threatening the sanity in Nigeria generally; it’s just an isolated case and we’ll deal with it directly.”
