Akwa Ibom Gov Umo Eno dumps PDP for APC, promises progressive change
In a significant political maneuver, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a formal event at the Akwa Ibom State Government House in Uyo, where notable APC figures, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Cross River’s Bassey Otu, were in attendance.
Governor Eno expressed his decision to shift allegiance, stating, “After completing the rounds of my consultation as your servant whom you have elected to serve, I have therefore decided to progressively move to the APC.”
The defection is expected to catalyze a wave of departures from the PDP, with all 31 local government chairmen, numerous lawmakers, and the majority of cabinet members reportedly preparing to join the APC. However, the political landscape is not without dissent, as Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Ini Ememobong, recently resigned, emphasizing his commitment to personal principles and political values that prevent him from aligning with the APC.
As political dynamics evolve in Akwa Ibom, President Bola Tinubu remains engaged, monitoring the unfolding events from his Lagos residence while the APC seeks to strengthen its foothold in the region.
