Aiyekooto recounts achievements in media industry as he clocks 26

The Group CEO and Managing Director of The Elites Watch – an ilorin-based online newspaper – Abdulwaheed Olamilekan Sulaiman has flaunted his success in the media industry and politics as he celebrates his 26th birth anniversary on Saturday.

Abdulwaheed, who is a socio-political writer, social media commentator and influencer, made his debut in Journalism when he published an investigative report, which sparked widespread debate and triggered the Kwara State government into action.

In a statement he personally released to The Informant247 on Saturday, he reflected on his life journey in Journalism, early life and education, training and experience, politics and community engagements, and many others, to which he registered his satisfaction.

The statement reads in part; “In 2021, Abdulwaheed established THE ELITES WATCH, an online newspaper based in Ilorin, Kwara State capital. He did that with the core objective of disseminating high-quality content to the public, targeting the mass population.

“He made his debut in journalism in an investigative report titled ‘Left Hanging: KWASU Battles Administrative Problems, Overpopulation as Kwara Govt Fails to Appoint Substantive VC, Governing Council’ which garnered debate and led to swift action from the state government.

“He also trained as an intern at New Telegraph Newspaper, where he reported variously under the Health, Metro, and Politics Desks. He was featured severally on the Politics pages (print) in a report co-authored alongside a senior correspondent, Anayo Ezugwu.

“During his stint at New Telegraph, he reported mostly on Health and Crime desks. It is to his credit that he attended the World Diabetes Day 2023 Webinar powered by Nigerian Medical Association, Lagos State chapter.

“Additionally, one of his top stories (newsprint) published on New Telegraph titled ‘Lagos Traders’ Union Petition Police, Accuses Ex-chair, Wife of N5m fraud’ grabbed attention of the legal representative of the alleged and eventually prompted the immediate repayments of the funds by the accusers to the union coffers.”

At Unilorin, he prioritized blogging, a practical entrepreneurship skill acquisition programme for undergraduate students under the Graduate Self Employment Scheme (simply GSE 301) on the tutelage of Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji, where he learnt the ropes of news writing and publications.

Before his career in journalism, Abdulwaheed began his work experience as a typist and word processor (Trainee) at R2 Computer Training Institute in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, in 2011. He later joined Raslat Information Technology in 2012, a firm owned by his uncle-in-law, as a Graphic Designer/Lead Instructor (Trainee).
