Again, convicted Kwara PDP chieftain Esinrogunjo to appear in court tomorrow over ‘rape of minor’
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, is set to appear before the Kwara State High Court on Wednesday in connection with an alleged rape case involving a 15-year-old girl, even as he begins serving a jail term following his conviction in a separate criminal matter.
Esinrogunjo, who was earlier docked before the state High Court for allegedly having unlawful sexual intercourse with Aishat Kamardeen, aged 15, will return to court for further proceedings in the case which has drawn public attention across the state.
The rape charge, instituted by the Kwara State Government, was first brought before the court last year when the prosecution sought to formally arraign the defendant on a one-count charge of rape and unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
Meanwhile, in a separate case concluded on Tuesday, Esinrogunjo was convicted and sentenced to nine months imprisonment by the Kwara State High Court for obstructing a police officer and disturbing public peace.
The judgment, delivered by Justice E.B. Muhammed after a trial that lasted three years and three months, found him guilty of interfering with lawful police duties and conduct capable of causing a breach of peace.
The court sentenced him to three months imprisonment without the option of a fine for obstructing a public officer, identified during trial as Sergeant James, while carrying out his lawful duties.
He was also handed an additional six-month jail term for disturbing public peace, with an option of a N2,000 fine in lieu of the six-month sentence.
