After AbdulRazaq: Who next? ‘We’re prepared’ — Yahaya Seriki camp asserts confidence
APC convention reflects unity despite growing governorship interests
‘Zoning can wait’ — Seriki camp shifts focus to competence ahead 2027
As political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape in Kwara State, a member of the Amb. AbdulFatai Yahaya Seriki Campaign Group, Abdulhamid Issa Mohammed, has declared that their principal is not merely in the race but fully prepared for the task of governance.
Speaking on The Discourse, a programme on Informant247 TV, Abdulhamid described the recent All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention in Abuja as more than a ceremonial gathering, noting that it served as a platform for aspirants to demonstrate structure, support, and readiness.
According to him, the convention reflected unity within the party, even as various governorship hopefuls subtly projected their ambitions through the mobilisation of supporters and coordinated appearances.
He maintained that despite the growing number of aspirants, the Kwara APC remains cohesive.
“Kwara spoke with one voice. The APC in the state is still one house,” he said.
Projecting confidence in Yahaya Seriki’s chances, Abdulhamid stressed that the aspirant’s years of grassroots engagement and accessibility give him a strategic advantage.
He argued that Seriki understands the needs of the people more than many of his contemporaries, having built his influence from the ground up.
On the contentious issue of zoning, Abdulhamid dismissed its priority in the current political climate, insisting that competence and capacity should take precedence over regional considerations.
He noted that every zone has the constitutional right to produce candidates, adding that what matters most to Kwarans is leadership that can deliver results.
“People are more interested in who will do the right job and make Kwara better. Zoning can wait at this crucial moment,” he said.
He further presented Seriki as a self-made figure who has thrived outside government patronage, describing him as someone capable of identifying opportunities and mobilising resources for development.
According to him, this distinguishes Seriki from others who may have benefited from state structures.
Abdulhamid also reaffirmed Seriki’s loyalty to the APC, recalling his participation in the 2023 senatorial contest and stressing that he remains committed to the party regardless of the outcome of the governorship race.
He added that Seriki’s ambition is driven by service rather than personal gain, expressing confidence that he would build on the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and further elevate governance in the state if elected.
