Abia’s Otti issues Aug 17 quit notice to truck drivers, illegal shops
Alex Otti, the Abia State Governor on Thursday, directed that vehicles parking by the roadside or on the median of Nkwoegwu Down to Ubakala Junction move to Ohiya Motor Park in Umuahia, adding that makeshift shops, shanties, and other illegal shops and structures along the affected areas have also been directed to quit before the deadline.
Otti’s directive was contained in a statement signed by Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, his special adviser on media and publicity, saying “This decision is to enable the government to decongest, clean up, safeguard, and beautify the state capital and its environs while reducing the danger associated with illegal parking of vehicles by the roadside and illegal trading that puts lives at risk. All those affected by this directive have up to Wednesday, August 17, 2023, to comply.”
The governor also warned that any vehicle still parked or being loaded in the affected areas after the August 17 deadline would be impounded, while any shop found still standing in the areas after the deadline would also be demolished.
