Rev. Fr. Michael Olofinlade, an Ekiti Catholic priest has been set free by his abductors, three days after he was kidnapped.

A reliable source said that Olofinlade was kidnapped at about 6pm on Saturday on the Itaji Ekiti-Ijelu Ekiti Roads in Oye Local Government Area of the State while he was returning to his parish at Omu Ekiti and was released on Tuesday evening.

A source at Ijelu Ekiti said, “Information about circumstances leading to the release of the Catholic priest is sketchy, but I can tell you he has been released and the Reverend Father was taken to hospital immediately after release for medical attention.

“I also know that following the abduction of the cleric on Saturday, the security agencies and local hunters were mobilised to go after the abductors to rescue the cleric and possibly effect arrest of the criminals.”

Also, the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Felix Ajakaye, who confirmed the release of Olofinlade, who is the parish priest of St. George’s Catholic Church, Omu, told journalists on the telephone on Wednesday: “Yes, he is out of the kidnappers den.”

The Bishop had on Sunday solicited “prayers for the quick and safe release of Fr. Olofinlade and him to return to his pastoral duty post to continue his service to God and humanity through and in the Church.”
