3-storey building sealed off for lack of toilet in Kwara

In a bid to ensure a cleaner environment and prevent the outbreak of disease, the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) has again sealed off a three storey building, housing thirty units of rooms, located at Gaa-Imam, behind Adisco International Works Company Ilorin, over environmental infractions by occupants of the building.

The building was sealed off on Tuesday for lack of toilet providing facilities which poses health risk to the people living around the place.

The Press Secretary of the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA), Aliyu Jamiu Amode while quoting the Acting General Manager of the Agency, Hajia Idayat Folorunsho Adeola, who was represented by Sanitarian Nusirat Oyewole Temitope leading the enforcement team, explained that the Agency had received complaints from residents of the area that occupants of the building often discharge human excreta to their compound through the filled up latrine, thereby causing offensive odour to the entire community.

Folorunsho, while expressing displeasure over the act of the occupants of the building, described it as very harmful to the health of residents of the community, adding that the decision to seal off the building was to enforce compliance with environmental laws and avert the imminent danger of the outbreak of infectious diseases in the area.

She, therefore, urged tenants, caretakers, and house owners to always work together to ensure proper maintenance of their residences by making provision for necessary facilities needed for the well-being of occupants.
