3 confirmed dead in Anambra road accident
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has verified the deaths of three people in an accident involving a vehicle and a motorbike in Anambra.
According to the corps, the accident happened on Monday night along the Onitsha-Ayamelum Road in Anambra’s Ayamelum Local Government Area.
Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra, confirmed the event to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Tuesday.
According to the FRSC chief, six male adults were engaged in the collision, which was caused by excessive speed.
“The collision included an unnamed commercial driver of a white Toyota Sienna with the registration number ABN504SZ and an identifiable rider of a private motorcycle with no registration number, Okwudili Okeke.”
According to eyewitnesses, the driver of the Sienna was driving at high speed while attempting to dodge an oncoming motorbike. He collided with another motorbike while in motion, somersaulted, and fell into the bush.
“FRSC employees at Ayamelum Station Office hurried the victims to a nearby Primary Health Centre, where three male adults were declared dead,” he added.
The corpses of the victims, according to Irelewuyi, have been deposited at the mortuary.
While expressing condolences to the relatives of the victims, he advised motorists to follow traffic laws by avoiding excessive speed and driving within safe speed limits.
