2027: Tinubu will win regardless of incoming INEC chair, says APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its unwavering confidence that President Bola Tinubu will triumph in the 2027 elections, regardless of who is appointed as the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In an interview with The Sun, Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the ruling APC, emphasized that the current INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, is set to conclude his tenure this year, with discussions already taking place regarding his successor.

When questioned about whether the APC plans to recommend a new chairman for INEC, Basiru remarked, “how can you be asking a player to recommend a referee? We are players and don’t care about which referee was brought to officiate the match.” He pointed out that the responsibility for recommending candidates lies with civil society organizations and lawmakers.

“Our own job is to mobilize, galvanize, and sensitize our members for whoever they like. In fact, by the time we mobilize, even if the new chairman of INEC is the father of the presidential candidate of another party, Asiwaju will still win the election,” Basiru concluded, reinforcing the party’s resolve and strategic commitment to Tinubu’s campaign.
