2027: PDP’s Fayose endorses Tinubu, Ekiti gov for re-election
In a surprising display of political support, former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Biodun Oyebanji for second terms in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
At a political gathering held in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose declared, “I hereby endorse publicly, without reservation, President Bola Tinubu for a second term. I also endorse our governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy for a second term.”
Fayose noted the significance of the event, calling it a “unique gathering” with the presence of former governors, state leaders, and National Assembly members from Ekiti. He viewed their attendance as a robust show of unity and political maturity.
Despite his affiliation with the opposition, Fayose emphasized that his endorsement was rooted in the evaluation of performance rather than party allegiance. “I am not a member of his party and I will never be, but I stand here to say I have seen the good work. I commend Governor Oyebanji’s humility and leadership. He deserves another term,” he stated.
Reflecting on his past political success in the state, Fayose challenged Oyebanji to achieve similar victories. “Who will, for the first time again, become the record holder to win in all the 16 local governments and all the 177 wards of Ekiti?” he asked, positioning future elections as a battleground for competitors.
Fayose also praised the efforts of other political figures in promoting unity and welcomed the recent defections to the APC, implying that such movements would benefit the party. “This unity is a model for all states in Nigeria,” he remarked.
His unexpected endorsement comes in the wake of renewed efforts by APC leaders in Ekiti to consolidate support for both Tinubu’s administration and Oyebanji’s governance as they prepare for the 2027 elections.
