2 teenagers remanded for allegedly breaking into house, stealing
Two teenagers, Alepha Ahemel, and Fawas both 15 years of age, were on Tuesday, remanded for allegedly breaking into house and stealing.
The teenagers were remanded on the order of
an Oyo State Family Court, sitting at Iyaganku, Ibadan, for allegedly breaking into house and stealing.
It was gathered that teenagers were accused of stealing electricity cables.
It was also gathered that the teenagers are scavengers working for one Baba Adamu of Sabo, Ibadan.
The defendants were arraigned by the Police on three count charges of breaking into a house, conspiracy and stealing.
Insp. Folake Ewe, who’s the Police prosecutor, said the teenager, and two other persons at large, were alleged to have conspired to break into a home.
Ewe revealed that: “The defendants, on Oct. 28, at about 10:00 a.m., at Ogunrounbi area, Aba Teacher area, Omi-Adio, allegedly removed the burglary proof from a window to gain entry into the house.
“The defendants allegedly stole all electrical cable wire installations in the house, valued at N200,000, property of one Adebisi Shittu.”
Ewe also said that the offences was a violation of Section 383, and punishable under sections 390 (9) 411 and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000.
When the matter was read to the defendants, they however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Mr Omoniyi Emmanuel, who’s their defence counsel, persuaded the court to admit his clients to bail on liberal terms.
Mrs Patricia Adetuyibi, who’s the Chief Magistrate, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N200,000 each, plus two sureties in like sum.
Adetuyibi added that one of the sureties must be the mothers of the defendants, while the second sureties must be their boss.
She then directed the remand of the teenagers at Omi-Adio Police Station.
She has adjourned the case until January 5, 2023 for further hearing.
