2 men in court over alleged theft of vehicle worth N1.7m in Ogun
Two men, 55-year-old Popoola Sunday, and 43-year-old Ibu Patrick, on Thursday appeared before an Ogun Court, over alleged theft of a Toyota Sienna bus worth N1.7 million.
The defendants who resides at No. 3/5 Taofeek Street, off Ali-Hiba, Ota, were charged by the police with conspiracy and stealing.
Insp E. O. Adaraloye, who’s the police prosecutor, informed the court that the defendants carried out the offences between 2018 and August, 2022 in their abode.
Adaraloye revealed that Sunday made a sale of a Toyota Sienna bus having APP 158 FK, as registration number and which was worth N1.7 million to Patrick, the second defendant without the knowledge of Titilola Oyelade, the complainant.
He said that Oyelade, who resided abroad put the Toyota bus in the custody of Sunday so that she would be making use of the vehicle, whenever she pays a visit to Nigeria, but Popoola sold the property without her knowledge.
Adaraloye added that the offences were in contravention of the Sections 390 (10a) and 516 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun, 2006.
when the matter was read to the defendants,
they pleaded not guilty to the offences of which they have been charged.
Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, who’s the magistrate, granted each of the defendants N200, 000 bail plus one surety each in like sum.
Adeyemi directed that the surety must live within the jurisdiction of the court and should be someone with gainful employment with evidence of payment of tax to Ogun State government.
She has adjourned the matter until December 1 for further hearing.
