15 neutralised as troops destroy terrorists’ logistics hub in Yobe

Troops of Operation DESERT SANITY V have neutralised no fewer than 15 terrorists during a precision military operation in Yobe State.

Security sources disclosed that the operation, carried out in the early hours of February 22 around Lamusheri Village in Gujba Local Government Area, also led to the destruction of a suspected terrorist logistics base.

According to counter-insurgency and security analyst Zagazola Makama, the mission followed weeks of coordinated intelligence gathering, including satellite imagery and surveillance from intelligence, reconnaissance, and air platforms. The location had reportedly been identified as both a launch point for attacks and a logistics hub for insurgents.

Troops, working alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, reportedly came under heavy fire as they advanced toward the target. However, they tactically outflanked the insurgents, cutting off escape routes and engaging them in a fierce gun battle.

During the exchange, 15 terrorists were neutralised, while several others escaped with suspected gunshot wounds.

Security personnel also uncovered extensive defensive structures at the site and dismantled life-support facilities believed to have sustained the group’s operations.

In addition, five tricycles and two vehicles allegedly used for logistics and attack missions were destroyed and set ablaze. Troops recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including two bandoliers and camel pouches.

The military confirmed that two personnel sustained gunshot injuries during the operation but are currently in stable condition.

While the security situation in the area remains calm, it was described as unpredictable. Nonetheless, troop morale and combat effectiveness were said to remain high.
