115 Kidnapped victims rescued, N443m oil theft thwarted in one week – DHQ

In a remarkable display of coordinated efforts, more than 115 kidnapped victims have been rescued in just one week in an operations led by the Defence Headquarters.

The rescues occurred between August 21 and 27, 2025, across several states, including Borno, Yobe, Katsina, Kaduna, and others, as well as the Federal Capital Territory.

Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced on Friday that the largest rescue was in Katsina State, where 76 victims were freed following targeted bombings of terrorist hideouts in Kankara Local Government Area.

“Troops rescued five kidnapped victims in Bama, Gwoza, Mobbar, Chibok, Monguno and Konduga LGAs of Borno State as well as Gujba LGA of Yobe State. In Katsina State, troops rescued 76 kidnapped victims following an aircraft bombardment of terrorist hideouts at Pauwa Hill in Kankara LGA of Katsina State,” Kangye stated.

In follow-up operations in Sokoto and Zamfara, three additional victims were liberated, while another 29 captives regained freedom in Benue and Taraba States under Operation Whirl Stroke. Two victims were also rescued during operations in Delta and Rivers States.

Throughout these operations, troops also eliminated numerous terrorists, arrested over 50 suspects, and seized various arms, ammunition, and illicit materials.

An impressive sum of N70,050 was recovered, along with several Improvised Explosive Devices that were safely detonated in Borno State.

Kangye indicated that a significant member of the notorious Abu Ayuba terrorist syndicate surrendered to Nigerian troops in Borno, showcasing the impact of intensified military operations.

“Following the intensity of our gallant troops’ firefights, a terrorist fighter belonging to the Abu Ayuba syndicate surrendered to troops in Kwayari village in Kaga LGA of Borno State on 20 August 2025,” he added, emphasizing the perpetrator’s willingness to cooperate in negotiations for the surrender of fellow members.

In a separate operation, troops of Operation Delta Safe thwarted a large-scale oil theft, intercepting substantial quantities of stolen crude oil and illegally refined products.

A total of 33 oil thieves were arrested, alongside the recovery of assorted arms and explosives, further highlighting the forces’ comprehensive efforts in tackling crime and terrorism.
